United expands activities in Amsterdam

United expands activities in Amsterdam

United, the new name for United Broadcast Facilities (UBF), has signed a ten-year lease for studio space in the brand new Gebouw Mediahaven in Amsterdam. The lease, to commence at the end of 2012, was signed today and will give United access to two TV recording studios in the brand new, sustainable building.

United is to rent a total of around 2,300 m2. In addition to the 1,700 m2 of studio space (one large studio of 1,300 m2 and a smaller, 400 m2 studio) United will also rent dressing rooms, production rooms, seven ENG storage spaces, and parking space in the garage – an additional 600 m2 in total.

The lease agreement was signed with Mediahaven Vastgoed BV and Impact Vastgoedrealisme. Work will start on the new sustainable studio and office complex in Amsterdam’s Houthavens this month. The multifunctional studio and office complex, covering a total of some 5,600 m2 plus extensive parking facilities, will house two TV studios and additional office space as well as a striking atrium overlooking the river IJ. The building was designed by Rotterdam’s Eilander Architects.

Hilversum-based Tuvalu Media, makers of such popular TV shows as ‘Ali B op Volle Toeren’ and ‘DNA Onbekend’, have also signed tenancy agreements with Gebouw Mediahaven. The contract with United means that 80% of the building is now leased. The owner of the building is in discussion with several candidates in the creative sector who are interested in the remaining floor, which will either be rented out in its entirety or to separate parties.
The Van der Heijden Groep in Woerden is responsible for the management of the new Gebouw Mediahaven. As well as the daily running of the building, its finances are also sustainable, being handled by the Triodos bank.

The Houthavens, the new creative heart of the Netherlands, are less than 5 minutes from the A10 ring road, and just 10 minutes from Central Station. They are easily reachable by public transport, by several bus options, from either Sloterdijk Station or Amsterdam’s Central Station.
