The mobile production unit raises the bar whilst setting a precedent for web TV

With its independent development of the @-car, nobeo GmbH has cemented its position as a leading technical service provider for web TV formats. The vehicle, outfitted with high-quality production and streaming technology, guarantees real-time internet transfers across Europe and is, amongst other projects, already being used for MyVideo.de shows.

The frequently prophesised shift of audiences’ viewing habits into cyberspace is being greeted by new and pioneering perspectives of truly high technical quality. The TV service provider nobeo presents an independently designed mobile production unit for professional web TV as well as live and social media streaming: the @-car!

As a multimedia solution for a successful combination of broadcast equipment and specific IT components, the @-car is always ready for use any time and any place, regardless of the geographical and technical conditions of the production site.
Within 12 weeks, a standard VW Multivan was converted into a flexible production unit and the vehicle’s service portfolio is impressive: the @-car’s equipment includes its own web TV direction (for up to six cameras), a graphics system integrated into the vision mixer, a high-quality sound console, optional file-based recording and playing as well as three work stations for complete live operation.
Not to mention, the encoding engine in the @-car immediately converts the send signal into all conventional formats and sizes, be it for the internet or mobile end devices. An integrated IP uplink then transfers the signal directly to the client’s streaming server or the nobeo Content Delivery Network.

Stefan Hoff, managing director of nobeo GmbH, is enthusiastic about the latest technical growth of the company: ‘In recent months, nobeo has developed an individual workflow for web TV productions and has adapted the @-car’s equipment to these requirements. From now on, our clients will have all technical opportunities for conventional web TV formats and complex live events online at their disposal beyond the traditional borders of the studio.’
The @-car has already survived its baptism under fire. For the online portal MyVideo.de, a subsidiary of ProSiebenSat.1 digital GmbH, the vehicle was responsible for the production and live streaming of the show ‘Make Up! by funnypilgrim’.
The @-car is not just an independent and cost-efficient partner for web TV shows. It can also digitally broadcast sporting events, press conferences, trade fairs, events and product presentations. Individual edited streams can easily be broadcast on large screens, LED screens, monitors and of course tablets and other mobile end devices.

Additional technical details and possibilities of the @-car:
The @-car is outfitted with an extremely high-performance IP-based uplink. The signal is transferred at up to 10 MB/s with negligible lead times, so even classic TV signals can be transmitted reliably. Thanks to its cost-effective IP space segment, the @-car is also suitable for use as an IP-SNG system in the broadcast sector. Connected to the Eutelsat satellites, the @-car guarantees reliable and stable signal transfer from anywhere in Europe. With its built-in direction, the @-car is also ready for immediate use in single-camera productions such as TV news programmes and is enormously cost efficient with regard to tight budgets.
As the end signal can be recorded in the vehicle in the source format or file-based as an already encoded stream, it can of course be subsequently edited or produced as an HD video. If connected to a broadcasting van, the @-car can also encode the signals of expensive TV productions and upload them to an internet stream – live and in real time. The @-car is a perfect alternative, especially in cases when the production site has an insufficient internet connection and it is not possible or economically feasible to order a broadband line.
