This summer, United will be on tour throughout the whole of Europe. At home and abroad, United is to facilitate the finest music events.
Here is a selection from the United Summer Music Tour:
Earlier this month, the popular Dutch singer Guus Meeuwis gave a series of concerts in Eindhoven. United maintained the screen shows throughout the concerts. In addition, United was tasked with the DVD recording, which was made using 25 cameras. The singer’s new video was also shot, loaded, assembled and edited.
During the weekend of the 15th and 16th June, United undertook the live broadcast of the MTV Italy Awards in Florence, Italy, from the Piazzale Michelangelo. As well as the recording, United took care of all of the audio for the show: transmitters, microphones and playing content.
In that same weekend, a crew in the Netherlands travelled to the south for the three day pop festival, Pinkpop. This was a complex job involving continuous recording from different podiums, with a short broadcast on Saturday and one of at least four hours on Sunday.
Meanwhile, a daily 15,000 strong public, led by leading Dutch artists, brought the house down at the Ziggo Dome concert hall in Amsterdam when they sang along with gusto to the greatest hits of folk singer André Hazes, who died in 2004. United was in charge of the screens and was also responsible for the HD DVD recording. Via a feed, ‘Holland sings Hazes’ was viewable live on one of Ziggo’s themed channels.
On 21st, 22nd and 23rd June, United attended the Best Kept Secret festival in the recreation area at the Beekse Bergen. United was commissioned to record this new festival for ‘3 for 12’, the alternative pop music platform of Dutch broadcaster VPRO. Many great new bands appeared before the cameras for three days.
From 21st to 26th June, Malta was taken over by Isle of MTV. This event, attended by 50,000 people, took place in Il Fosos Square in Valetta. Two years ago, United recorded the Isle of MTV in 3D, this year the organisation opted for 2D.
A further United crew travelled to Lodz in Poland to record TOTO on June 25th.
On June 27th, United records the Red Bull Soundclash in the Melkweg in Amsterdam: this is an explosive battle between two bands from different genres that inspire and creatively challenge one another. In four rounds, they show what they are capable of live.
In late June and early July, well-known Dutch artist/composer Andre Rieu will give eight concerts at the Vrijhof in Maastricht. United is responsible for the screens for the shows. In addition, a special recording with 16 cameras is to be made in the first weekend and a second one, with 28 cameras, in July.
At the same time, United brings MUSE’s concert in Rome to screens with Sony F55 cameras, fully digital film, in 4K. Digital film has never been used on this scale before.
The North Sea Jazz Festival will this year take place on the 12th – 14th July. As in previous years, United will record it: three days long in four concert halls, with multiple camera crews, for Dutch broadcaster NTR. United is taking a 37-strong crew and three trucks along to the festival: two OB trucks each with six cameras, and an edit server truck, into which all streams will be fed and edited straight away.
Throughout the summer United will record the TROS Music Festivals on the Square for Dutch broadcaster TROS. An enormous tent and the best Dutch-language artists in a square somewhere in the country always guarantees a party.
These concerts in the United Summer Music Tour represent a small group from the long history of United’s national and international concert recordings. And even after the summer, plenty of great productions are already scheduled!
