After the filming of the Muse Concert produced by the United teams last summer, as well as the development of the 4K cameras by ACS (Aerial Camera System) and DVS (Digital Video Sud), Euro Media Group increased and harnessed its knowledge of 4K technology once more, with the live coverage of the BNP Paribas Masters de Paris-Bercy tennis tournament.
Euro Media France spent three days creating a multi-camera live production in Ultra HD for the French Tennis Federation. EMF proposed a complete solution that ranged from the 4-camera coverage to the delivery of broadcast-ready files with a 3840x2160 pixel resolution, eight times the resolution of a normal HD signal.
The signal was broadcast on site at the POPB (Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy) via consumer-market type 4K TV screens (65-inch TXL65WT600E model) provided by Panasonic, a tournament sponsor.
Euro Media France was supported by a large number of companies:
- Sony who provided the F55 cameras, the MVS 8000X switcher, the HDCAM S R-R1000 recorders and the 4K monitors,
- Angénieux and Fuji for the lenses,
- DVS (a subsidiary of Rohde & Schwartz) for the Clipster (recording and transcoding of files),
- EVS for the slow motion with the XT3 server,
- Vizrt for the 4K graphic design platform,
- CTM for the 4K editing suite
- Miranda for the down conversion equipment (from 4K 1080 p50 to HD 1080 p50 & i50),
- Axon for the cross conversion from 4K 1080 p50 to 4K 1080p25.
In the production room built for the occasion on-site at Roland Garros, we also carried out the successful transmission of a 4K broadcast deployed over an optical fibre network (in partnership with the company Vidi via Medialinks)
We also deployed a Remote Production unit installed at the FFT head office for a remote production with 4 HD cameras, a remote control operation and the talkback facilities (cameramen and technical crew).
Finally for Canal+Sport, EMF deployed OB unit XL4 for the broadcast design of all the matches with 3 cameras, a commentator’s booth and a remote camera in the field. For its part W9 produced the graphics and managed a commentator booth for the semi-finals and final with the XL3 OB truck.
Gaël Tanguy, Euro Media France’s Technical Director pointed out: “Euro Media France coordinated the whole event by adapting its techniques to the demands of 4K production. We also took advantage of the Tennis Masters to go that much further in regards to innovation with the trial run of the Remote Production, which offers great prospects for the future”.
We would like to thank the entire staff of the Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy for welcoming us.
